Systems Support Users Group Minutes

Heather Slagell-Strong welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming.
There were 21 people in attendance.

    Website

    Erin Dwyer explained to the group the current website redesign project and introduced Mark Troester from Institutional Web Support Services. Mark’s group is helping Systems Support to development the new website. Mark had the entire group take a survey with 10 questions that the group then discussed. The survey included how different support groups utilized the website. This will give Mark’s group a better idea of what items are necessary for the new website to be successful. Eric also asked the group about what services they would like to see available online. For example, online checkout program and new/exiting employee forms.

    Checkout Program

    Heather Slagell-Strong explained why each person in the group was given a USB drive with the ISU logo. These were gifts of thanks to all members for their assistance to Systems Support.

    She also discussed the new items available in checkout program. These items include a new Canon Camera, Dell Slim Auto/Air/AC Adapter, Lenovo M500 projector and a Logitech cordless 2.4 GHz presenter.

    Notification of Computer Software

    Eric Hodges discussed the ability of Systems Support to now perform “silent” installs. The group was asked whether they would like to be notified of all installs or if this was more bothersome. After some discussion of the range of installations the consciences of the group was it would work best if routine installs were performed on a particular day and emergency installs were announced. For example, all routine installs will always be in Wednesday but if there is an emergency and something needs to be loaded for security reasons on Monday an email will be sent out.

    Second Shift

    Eric Hodges also introduced the newest member of the Systems Support team Garrett Stockum who will be the second shift manager. The second shift will be on May 27th, 2008. Garrett will be available for help until 11:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. His number will remain as the main line 438-5740.
