Outlook 2007 for Calendaring
Published: 05/02/2007
After
years of discussion and debate, the move from Meeting Maker to Outlook
for electronic scheduling is set to happen in June. Everyone on
campus who currently uses Meeting Maker will migrate to the Microsoft
Exchange server for this service. Highlights of this project:
-
Your Meeting Maker data will be transferred automatically
to Outlook, at a date to be announced (likely during the 1st, 2nd or 3rd
weekend in June)
-
If you do NOT want your Meeting Maker data transferred to
Outlook (because you already maintain your Outlook calendar; you have a PDA
synch to Outlook, etc.), contact Heather at 8-8739 to add your account to
the exclusion list
-
After the migration is complete, Meeting Maker will cease
to function
-
We are providing more than 30 hands-on training classes
to bring you up to speed on Outlook shared calendaring. We encourage
everyone who uses Meeting Maker to attend one of these transition courses.
See this brochure for information.

If you do not have a Meeting Maker account, you will not
need to do anything
Outlook's new Junk E-Mail Filter Making an Impact
Published: 05/02/2007
The
Systems Support Office has made concerted efforts to reduce the amount
of e-mail spam we all have been receiving. Microsoft has released
a number of tools & techniques to assist us in the venture. We
have been cautiously introducing them into our environment and analyzing
their effects over the past two months. For the most part, these
tools are working great. Approximately 90% of all e-mail is now
being flagged as spam with few reports of legitimate messages falling
into the spam category.
However, the report of "false
positives" are not zero; some legitimate messages are landing in the Junk E-Mail
folder. Here is what you should do:
-
Periodically check your Junk E-Mail for valid messages;
anything older than 30 days is automatically deleted from this folder, so
routine inspection is advised
-
Set a rule that allows all messages from ISU, no matter
how much they look like spam. To do this:
-
go to Actions -> Junk E-Mail -> Junk E-Mail Options
-
Select the "Safe Senders" tab
-
Select "Add"
-
Type in "@ilstu.edu" and press OK
-
If you participate in ISU listservs, also add "@listserv.ilstu.edu"
The process of rule evasion, detection and blocking will
continue to evolve so long as spammers believe there is profit to be made in
this venture.
