How to Create and Switch Between multiple
CICS Sessions
This document contains a brief description on
how to use the "rotate" or "roll through" function in VTAMSWITCH (the
software you see when you start a mainframe session and "login" to the
mainframe. Once you supply your userid and password to VTAMSWITCH (the
mainframe) you see the following screen:
I. If you want to have two CICS sessions
and rotate through them, you first select (2) above and you will get the
following:
II. If you press PA1 (usually mapped to
holding the ALT-F1 on a PC), you will be returned to the previous "menu"
screen with a slight difference (see below). Your PA1 key could be in
different locations.
III. If you want to start a second CICS
session, select "2" again and you will start a second CICS session.
PA2 (ALT-F2) will return you to the VTAM SWITCH MENU where you will see TWO
opened sessions:
IV. To properly close CICS sessions, type
a "c" in front of each CICS line in the "Opened Sessions" panel and press
<Enter>.
Shortcuts:
- ALT-F1 (PA1): rotate you through
all "OPENED" sessions in VTAMSWITCH
- ALT-F2 (PA2): return you to the
VTAMSWITCH menu
- c: properly terminate an open CICS
session
