Make a conference call

On the Conference Phone:

  1. Dial the first phone number.
  2. Once the caller is on the line, hit the ^ arrow under the More button.
  3. Hit the ^ arrow under the Confrn button.
  4. You will get a dial tone; the caller will get ISU hold music.
  5. Dial the second phone number.
  6. Hit the ^ arrow under the Confrn button. This will connect all parties.
  7. The phone number for the Carl Kasten Board room is (309) 438-4345.

Use the wireless keyboard and mouse

  1. Plug the black USB receiver into a USB port on the laptop.
  2. Set the wireless keyboard and mouse no more than 30 feet away from the laptop.
  3. Turn the mouse over and make sure the switch is set to On.
  4. If the keyboard and mouse are not working after waiting 1 minute, push the Reset button on the bottom of each non-working device.
  5. If the keyboard or mouse is still not working, obtain replacement batteries from the Building Receptionist or Building Manager.

Use an Alumni Center checkout laptop

The Alumni Center has laptops available for checkout. The laptops can connect to projectors for presentations, provide wireless and wired internet access, and include Office 2007 and Adobe Reader software. To obtain a laptop, please visit the Building Manager or Building Receptionist.

  1. Power on the laptop.
  2. The laptop will automatically log on as the local user sysactrain.

Access the internet using a wired connection:

  1. Plug in a network cable from the wall to the laptop.

Access the internet using a wireless connection, and an ISU ULID:

  1. Power on the laptop.
  2. The laptop will automatically log on as the local user sysactrain.
  3. Click Start, select Log off.
  4. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to log on.
    • For the User Name field, type your ISU ULID.
    • For the Domain field, type adilstu.
    • For the Password field, type your password.
    • Click the OK button.
  5. When the wireless connection is ready, there will be a green fan shaped icon in the lower-right corner:

  7. If the wireless connection is not working, make sure the hardware switch is set to On. For Dell laptops, this switch is located on the left side of the laptop.

Access a file on a USB drive a.k.a. “thumb drive” or “jump drive”

  1. Plug the USB drive in to a USB port on the laptop.
  2. To manually open the USB drive, double-click My Computer.
  3. Look for a drive labeled “Removable Disk”. Often the drive’s letter will be (E:) or (F:).
  4. When you are finished using the USB drive:

Access the internet using a wireless connection and an ISU GuestNet account

Faculty and staff at Illinois State University can create network guest accounts for their visitors.

  1. To obtain a GuestNet account, visit the Building Manager, Building Receptionist, or Conference Services.
  2. Double-click the yellow fan icon in the lower-right corner, this is the wireless connection:

  4. Double-click isu-guest.
  5. When the wireless connection is ready, the fan icon will turn green:
  6. Wireless green fan icon (connected)
  7. Double-click the Internet Explorer icon, to open the web browser.
  8. You should be directed to a webpage that says GuestNet.

Access a network file

If you are logged on with an ISU ULID:

  1. Double-click My Computer to display your network drives.
If you are not logged on with an ISU ULID:
  1. Go to the website http://netdrives.sys.ilstu.edu.
  2. When prompted, type your ISU ULID and password. Click OK.
  3. You will now see a listing of your drive letters and their network path.

Project a laptop’s display

On the Touch Panel:

  1. Tap the screen to wake the touch panel.
  2. Type the password, and then click the Enter button.
  3. Press the Laptop button.
  4. If you need audio, press the Mute button to toggle mute off (red) or on (yellow).

On the Laptop:

  1. Connect the black video (VGA) cable.
    • Macintosh video adapters are located with the Building Manager or Building Receptionist.
  2. If you need audio, connect the audio cable into the headphone jack.
    • For Dell laptops, this is usually on the left side.
  3. If you need network access, connect the blue network cable.
  4. For Dell laptops, hold the Fn button, and then keep pressing the F8 button until you have the desired video output. You need to pause each time you press Fn + F8, because the computer response is delayed.
    • Video output options include: laptop only, laptop and projector, and projector only.
  5. If you cannot hear audio, check for the volume mute icon on the computer:  Muted volume icon.  If the volume is muted, left-click the icon and un-check Mute.

Watch a DVD or listen to a CD, through a laptop

On the Touch Panel:

  1. Tap the screen to wake the touch panel.
  2. Type the password, and then click the Enter button.
  3. Press the Laptop button.
  4. If you need audio, press the Mute button to toggle mute off (yellow) or on (red).

On the Laptop:

  1. Connect the black video (VGA) cable.

  6. Open media software, such as PowerDVD or Windows Media Player.
  7. To control the DVD or CD (for example: play, rewind), use the media software.
  8. If you cannot hear audio, check for the volume mute icon on the computer:  mute.jpg  
    • If the volume is muted, left-click the icon and un-check Mute.

Watch a DVD or listen to a CD, through the DVD/VCR player

On the Touch Panel:

  3. Press the DVD/VCR button.
  4. If you need audio, press the Mute button to toggle mute off (red) or on (yellow).

On the DVD/VCR player:

  1. Press the Open/Close button.
  2. Place your DVD in the tray.
  3. Press the Open/Close button.
  4. If “DVD” is not lit up in green, press the VCR/DVD button on the touch panel to toggle from VCR to DVD.
  5. To control the DVD or CD (for example: play, rewind), use the touch panel buttons.

Watch a VHS tape

On the Touch Panel:

  1. Tap the screen to wake the touch panel.
  2. Type the password, and then click the Enter button.
  3. Press the DVD/VCR button.
  4. If you need audio, press the Mute button to toggle mute off (red) or on (yellow).

On the DVD/VCR player:

  1. Slide the VHS tape in to the DVD/VCR player.
  2. If “VCR is not lit up in green, press the VCR/DVD button on the touch panel to toggle from DVD to VCR.
  3.  To control the VCR (for example: play, rewind) either:
